Experience Bridging Horizons: From Taiwan to Texas, a one-of-a-kind concert where music becomes a powerful story of culture, identity, and human connection. Internationally acclaimed Taiwanese pianist, composer, and arranger Yi-Chih Lu travels from Taiwan for his Texas debut, leading audiences through a musical journey inspired by heritage, migration, and the shared stories that connect people across continents.
The program weaves beloved Taiwanese folk melodies with Western classical composition techniques, creating a rich musical tapestry that bridges Eastern and Western traditions. It features two world premieres commissioned exclusively for this concert: Our Way, Our Dream, a new choral work portraying the hopes and experiences of Taiwanese immigrants in America, and A Taiwanese Wandering in the Lone Star, a piano quartet inspired by Texas history, the Friendship Pavilion at Hermann Park, and the enduring cultural exchange between Taiwan and Texas.
Performing with Yi-Chih Lu are Houston's Trio Oriens, featuring pianist I-Ling Chen, violinist Shih-Ting Huang, and cellist Olive Chen, together with the Taiwanese Chorus of Greater Houston under the direction of Charles Chou. More than 80 musicians and singers unite for this unique collaboration, celebrating tradition, shared heritage, and cultural exchange. Arrive early to enjoy unique pre-concert cultural activities beginning at 3:00 PM before the 4:00 PM performance.
