About

CAVA rolls in from Germany for a co-bill soiree with Houston's own Cactus Flowers at The Big Top!

CAVA enjoys sparkling wine hence their name. Musically they swing hard towards garage and punk, dirty guitar riffs, fuzz, distortion, tons of feedback, but with melodic vocals. They channel their rage with the status quo through unforgettably powerful, high energy live shows and engage listeners with thoughtful, catchy lyrics (main themes include sexism, classism, capitalism, feminism).
The band has sharpened their skills and demonstrated their stamina with over 200 live shows throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland and beyond. They have shared the stage with international touring acts like Lambrini Girls, Sleaford Mods, Death Valley Girls, Spite Fuxx, Beatsteaks, Bibione, Tocotronic, Team Scheisse, Leopard and more. Festivals they’ve performed include Fusion Festival, Breminale, Back To Future Festival to name a few.
CAVA has been making music since 2020 and released their second full-length album titled, Powertrip, to critical acclaim in November 2024. On Powertrip, CAVA set out to pose and answer questions like: Who’s in power? How is it used and applied? And how the hell can we empower ourselves during these times, when we often feel overwhelmed and powerless?
Mela and Peppi connected through an Instagram page that brings together female musicians looking to find band members. Peppi posted an ad looking for a drummer and/or bassist and Mela responded. When they first met to grab some drinks and talk, they realized they have been living on the same street, studied the same topic (Musicology), and had loads of interests in common. They clicked immediately and started making music together shortly thereafter.
In 2022 they met the Berlin-based musician Lars Paprotta and became good friends while CAVA was on a tour with his band, Leopard. They started making music together on that tour when Lars jumped on guitar so that Peppi could have more freedom to move around on stage, and focus on singing. He’s been touring with CAVA ever since playing guitar or bass and sometimes flute. But it wasn’t until 2025 that he officially joined the band as a full member.
CAVA is excited to be recording their third studio album which will be their first that includes Lars on bass. “The best part about recording together is just being away from home and your everyday life and really just being able to focus on music for a couple of days,” Peppi says. Mela adds “the recording process usually gives you the chance to hear your own songs in a broader context for the first time and to develop them further.”
Lars says “it’s such a cool experience being creative in that setting and really strengthens that group feeling.”
Over the last few years, CAVA have become one of the loudest voices in the German music scene. Now they are setting course for their first-ever American tour which is planned for the Fall of 2026.
Cactus Flowers is a Houston, Texas-based psychedelic rock band known for fuzzy guitars, southern flair, and the vocals of Jessica A.M.. Formed around 2014, the trio features Jessica A.M. (vocals/guitar), Mark Carcamo (drums), and John Griffin (bass). Their music combines psych-rock with heavy, melodic, and gritty sounds.
