About

Created by ARTECHOUSE Studio in collaboration with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), Twilight Zone takes you into one of the largest, strangest, and least understood habitats on Earth. Here, creatures create their own light, extraordinary organisms live in near-total darkness, and the largest animal migration on the planet takes place every single night.

Through monumental immersive visuals, an original musical score, interactive installations, and extended-reality experiences, Twilight Zone transforms cutting-edge ocean science into something you can see, hear, explore, and feel. Encounter the wonderfully bizarre creatures of the deep, use sound and environmental DNA to uncover hidden life, and journey alongside WHOI’s underwater robot Mesobot into a world few humans have ever witnessed.

EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHTS

A 24-minute immersive cinematic journey through a complete cycle of diel vertical migration, from the sunlit surface to the deep twilight zone and back again

Ride along with Mesobot, and get a POV perspective of the mysterious creatures that live within the twilight zone, taken from real deep-ocean footage.

Sensing the Ocean, a collection of interactive experiences showing how bioacoustics, environmental DNA, advanced imagery, and artificial intelligence allow scientists to study an environment largely inaccessible to humans.

Weird and Wonderful Creatures, an interactive aquarium-like encounter where guests activate individual twilight zone animals to learn what makes them both strange and remarkable.

Mesobot: The Descent, follows the water column down to Mesobot’s maximum depth of 1000 meters, allowing visitors to meet its creatures along the way.

Abundance & Bioluminescence, a visually memorable moment where bioluminescent fields of lanternfish drift across the floor and multiply infinitely across the horizon.

ARTECHOUSE XR Bar serving craft cocktails designed intentionally for each exhibition, served with custom extended reality art
