The Complete Piano Etudes by Philip Glass

The Etudes—Philip Glass’s most personal body of work—a self-portrait of a life’s practice, representing some of the most intimate and inventive music of his oeuvre. As Philip’s longtime creative producers, Pomegranate Arts curates an evening of the twenty piano etudes in their entirety performed by ten featured pianists, each bringing their own unique approach to their instrument and to Glass’s work. The result is an evening of master piano works for the 21st century.

Etudes #1-5 were composed in 1994 for Dennis Russell Davies. Etude #6 was commissioned by the 1996 Sydney Festival. Etudes #11 and 12 were commissioned by Bruce Levingston in 2007, premiered at Avery Fisher Hall, New York, NY. Etude #17 was commissioned for the 25th Anniversary of the Menil Collection in Houston, TX in 2012. Etudes #18, 19 and 20 were commissioned by the 2012 Perth International Arts Festival.
