Season Opening Concert: Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony
Celebrate the Texas Medical Center Orchestra’s first concert of the 2026–2027 season with one of the most inspiring and beloved works in the orchestral repertoire. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. A landmark of classical music, Beethoven’s final symphony is renowned for its monumental scale, emotional depth, and triumphant “Ode to Joy” finale, offering a timeless celebration of hope, unity, and the enduring human spirit.
The evening begins with Overture to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg by Richard Wagner. A vibrant and uplifting work that sets the stage for an unforgettable musical journey. From its stirring opening to its exhilarating choral finale, this concert celebrates the power of music to unite performers and audiences alike.
To conclude this mesmerizing evening, the orchestra will perform Symphony No. 9 in D minor by Ludwig van Beethoven. Featured in this symphony are Sophia Orrico, Soprano; Antoinette Pompe van Meerdervoort, Mezzo-Soprano; Stefán Víkingur, Tenor; and Tzvi Bat Asherah, Bass-Baritone and The Kingwood Chorale, under the direction of Todd Miller.
Founded in 2000 by Maestra Libi Lebel, the Texas Medical Center Orchestra (TMCO) is one of the few community orchestras in the United States rooted in the medical community. Comprised of physicians, nurses, researchers, healthcare professionals, educators, students, and accomplished musicians from across Greater Houston, TMCO is dedicated to presenting exceptional orchestral performances while supporting medically related and educational charities. Nationally recognized for its artistic excellence through honors from The American Prize, the orchestra continues to enrich Houston’s cultural landscape while advancing its mission of service through music. Through the shared language of music, TMCO inspires, connects, and strengthens the communities it serves.
