José Hernández is the founder and musical director of Mariachi Sol de México, which he formed in 1981 and has led to international touring and high-profile collaborations. He is an accomplished trumpet player, arranger and educator who has produced Grammy?nominated recordings, developed mariachi curricula and contributed music for film and television. Hernández also founded educational initiatives (including the Mariachi Heritage Society) to expand mariachi programs in U.S. schools.
