Brinton Averil Smith is an American cellist who has served as principal cellist of the Houston Symphony since 2005 and is on the faculty of Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. He has performed widely as a soloist and chamber musician, premiered and revived neglected works (notably the Castelnuovo-Tedesco cello concerto) and has recorded for labels including Naxos. Smith is also active as a pedagogue at festivals such as Aspen and Sarasota.
